I was testing a game that seems tough for my PC, but it ran smoothly for months. Suddenly it shut down without any warning. When I checked, there was no message—just like unplugging it. Then I noticed a burning odor from inside the case. Opening it revealed the power supply was extremely hot. After letting it cool, I tried opening the PC again. Instead of working, I saw only a brief vibration from my controller and a flash of four red lights on the motherboard. Anyone know what could be wrong? It might be the power supply or the motherboard, possibly both. Can someone help me identify which part is faulty so I can replace it? Thanks in advance.
I concur that the PSU is likely your top choice. I recommend taking the PSU out of the case and checking its smell—does it have a burnt odor? If so, it’s probably the PSU.
