The computer shakes up but only when you try to turn it off again.
Your computer experiences occasional stutters and crashes, yet resets back to normal after a restart. You enjoy long gaming sessions without issues, but when you power off it becomes unstable until the next restart. This behavior suggests intermittent hardware or software problems.
Having the necessary details about your system is essential. A hardware specification sheet and your Windows version will help us proceed effectively.
It hasn't always been this way, but lately I've had some changes around my PC. I downloaded AMD Adrenaline for the CPU, tweaked the power settings in the software, and removed two RAM sticks to leave me with a 2x16 configuration. This allowed me to turn on XMP and achieve a 6000MHz CPU (Ryzen 9 7900X). The motherboard is MSI X670e MAG Tomohawk, with 32GB of RGB DDR5 RAM from Corsair Vengeance. The GPU is the 3060TI XLR8. My power supply is a 650GT, though it only has one CPU power cable and I need two, so I'm fixing that soon. I'm running Windows 10 Pro.
my temps are good although im also getting a new case to improve airflow but nothing is being thermally throttled or stopped bcz of temps which is the only thing i could think of, not sure if that would even make any sense in this case but the only thought i had
The problem likely stems from a recent change that affected RAM behavior. You can quickly check for memory issues using Windows Memory Diagnostic. Overclocking settings like XMP may be causing trouble if they aren’t compatible with your hardware. Restoring the RAM to its original specifications and performance should help resolve the issue. If that doesn’t work, turn off any overclocking features such as XMP, DOCP, or XPO.
Thanks a lot! I had no idea Windows had its own RAM diagnostic tool. I’m trying it out now—if it can’t detect anything, I’ll give your other tips a shot. Speaking aloud, it seems the performance mode I set on my CPU might not be ideal since I only have one power connection right now and it struggles to keep up. That makes sense. I’m currently using the RAM diagnostic and will update you on the results. Thanks!
