I reside in India and power interruptions are common. My setup uses an inverter that activates and deactivates roughly every two seconds during outages. To keep my PC running, I rely on a Microtek 650VA UPS. The Microtek Line Interactive Legend 650 UPS System offers reliable backup and protection https://amzn.eu/d/2ssdl90. Recently, I bought a GTX 960 2GB and experienced four shutdowns in just four days. It doesn’t always power off during outages but frequently does so. My PSU calculator indicates even a 280W unit is sufficient, while my UPS runs at 650VA or 360W. Could the UPS be the issue? It’s still under warranty for two months. P.S. I’ve never used an UPS as a primary backup; it’s just a short-term safeguard until the inverter takes over.

Use the UPS safely on a correctly grounded wall outlet, avoid placing it near the inverter.

As @191x7 noted, these shutdowns happen during power outages. Your main system runs a GTX 960 and the idle power consumption is about 145W with monitor, router, and modem included. Light gaming uses around 240W while more demanding games draw near 350W. Verify your UPS specifications; a 360W unit might only last a few minutes. Ideally, choose a UPS with at least double the capacity rating to ensure reliability. Remember that lead-acid batteries need several hours to recharge fully, so frequent brownouts or blackouts suggest you need a more robust solution or larger storage.

You can use your PC during a power outage by connecting it to a battery-powered inverter. This will keep all devices like plugs, fans, and lights running until the main power is restored.

My system rarely needs to save the PC to a backup drive, lasting no longer than two seconds. That’s because the inverter keeps power running around the clock. All my devices are linked through the inverter except big appliances such as the fridge.

Do you have a standard power source available besides the inverter? The UPS would be a safer alternative. If it fails to activate, it might indicate a problem with the unit or your setup.

they’ll run for about half an hour at 650v, but your inverter can keep power on for a full day while you load the whole house.
