Hello, I own an outdated SATA HDD that has been causing issues for some time. To resolve this, I purchased a replacement and transferred my data over. Previously, the main concerns were difficulty accessing the drive or extremely slow speeds. Unfortunately, during a power outage, my PC shut down while copying. Once power restored, I attempted to restart it but encountered no response. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the PC would boot and load into Windows without issues as long as the drive remained unplugged. When I tried connecting it back in while Windows was running, both Explorer and Disk Management appeared unresponsive—even after hours of inactivity until I unplugged the drive again. Mounting the drive on a Unix OS also caused problems; listing disks (using fdsik or hwinfo) seemed to freeze until the drive was disconnected. I’m at a loss for solutions.

System details: Asus Crosshair VII Hero BIOS version 4901, G.Skill Ripjaw V 32Gb on 4 banks, Ryzen 9 5900X, AMD Vega 64 LEPA B800-MAS 800W, 2x M.2 SSDs, 2x SATA SSDs, 2.5" HDD, and the failing drive is a WD10EADS (if relevant). Please advise.

It might work with a USB dock, though the drive appears to be missing.

It seems like a tough headlock situation. This can occur when it's triggered while the system is powered down, which is quite problematic.
