Hello,
My computer is restarting unexpectedly without any apparent cause, the screen goes dark and then comes back after a short time, followed by a normal restart and then it works again. The most recent incident happened about five minutes ago, and the Event Viewer showed the event ID 41. I think this might be related to a hardware problem, though I’m not certain what could be causing it. I recently ran Memtest x86 and everything looked good. The machine was built back in September.

Details:
GPU: Asus TUF RTX 5070 Ti OC 16GB
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B850-F Gaming WiFi
Power Supply: Seasonic FOCUS GX ATX 3 (2024) GX-850 850 W ATX3.1 80 PLUS GOLD Nvidia RTX 40 Super/50
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series AMD EXPO 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC DDR5 6000
Storage: SAMSUNG 990 PRO 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280

Begin by looking for a BIOS update for the motherboard maker’s site. Install it if your current version is old.
Reset the CMOS BIOS settings. Details are provided in the motherboard user guide.
Investigate if increased system demand relates to the sudden power-off. Try launching a demanding application or running a performance test.

There is a BIOS update from about a couple weeks ago actually. I should try that.
Clearing CMOS clears the whole BIOS right? So everything would get wiped and need to be reinstalled? That's no biggie of course, but then you need to get a copy of the BIOS onto a USB stick?
Doesn't seem to be a correlation between system load, I can run high intensity games for hours on end without issue. The two restarts today occurred while in a Discord call and nothing else going on. So I ran Total War Warhammer 3, which is reasonably intensive and it ran just fine for about an hour, until I got tired of it.

No, your installed applications won't be impacted. The BIOS configurations will revert to their standard settings. You don't have to duplicate the BIOS file. Simply refer to the appropriate part of your user guide.

Thank you, I'll try this again if it continues. I've been very busy and haven't had time to use the PC. I pushed the cord into the PSU just in case it wasn't properly connected and made sure the cables went into the surge protector. I used it today for four hours and played a couple of games without any issues so far. I'll remember your suggestions if it becomes a problem again. Thanks again!

It appears the BIOS update might not have included stability enhancements. While it supports some CPUs better, the details are unclear. Having used the current BIOS version since September without issues doesn't rule out occasional unexpected behavior.

Returning to this situation. If there’s no link between the factors, what does it probably suggest? And if a high system load caused the unexpected shutdown, would it point to a power supply issue or something else in the hardware?

These kinds of problems usually involve heat and/or power concerns.
Are you running any applications (CPU, GPU, memory)?
What are your CPU and GPU temperatures when not running and when they are under stress?
Tell me about the cooling solutions in your setup.

I'm not pushing the GPU too hard, but it defaults to overclocking if that's what it needs. For cooling, I've set up:
Case: a single large 140mm fan at the back and two 120mm fans on the front
Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler, Dual Tower with 6 Heat Pipe, Dual 120mm
My monitoring tools keep the GPU and CPU temperatures low. I haven't noticed the GPU exceeding 65°C or the CPU going above 60°C except occasionally during certain game loads where it briefly reached 77°C.
CPU idle stays between 36°C and 43°C; under load it's been more aggressive, hovering around 55-60°C initially, but settling back to 55-60°C during heavy use. The GPU usually sits at 30-40°C idle (currently 40°C) and climbs to 55-65°C when under stress.
I'm concerned about the PSU. I purchased a reliable unit from a trusted seller with ample power capacity to prevent these kinds of problems.

Just to mention, I'm testing the in-game benchmark for Total War Warhammer 3. It simulates two AI forces clashing with numerous effects, then displays your FPS. The intensity increases over time. Temperatures remain stable, CPU stays around 60-65°C (per Ryzen Master) and GPU around 55-60°C (according to GPU Tweak III).

I observed it more frequently when using Microsoft Edge. It mostly happened during Discord calls with minimal other activity—perhaps just the call and light browsing. It occurred a few times in an Edge Discord session while playing a game, and once after launching a VR game briefly.

Event ID 41 usually leads to Event ID 1001 BugCheck, and I encounter errors in the event viewer Event ID 1801 TPM-WMI that appear to be linked to Secure Boot. I’m not sure if there’s any connection between them.
