When powered down, I canβt switch it back on immediately. If I attempt it, the system freezes on Q-code 00 accompanied by a red CPU indicator and an orange error light. The machine must be shut off for roughly 2.5 to 5 minutes before it attempts to restart. Itβs also typical for the PC to crash after powering off, yet remain on, turning off at codes such as Q-code 46, then 41 and 45. After prolonged periods of intense memory useβlike opening many tabs or running demanding gamesβit will repeatedly cycle through a sequence of codes for several minutes before returning to 00 without shutting down, forcing me to perform a hard reboot. From my understanding, this only occurs after extended high-memory activity. Initially, I returned an unsupported kit and replaced it with a supported one, but the problem persists. Any suggestions on possible causes?
Rule 1 with Ryzen means verify your BIOS is up-to-date. AMD resolves issues through it, updating multiple times as often as Intel does, and maintaining it is essential. This explains why I avoid purchasing an AMD motherboard without a USB BIOS flash system. Any unusual errors may arise if the BIOS is outdated. If that failsβ¦ error codes often indicate hardware problems. The issue here involves roughly five components (CPU, motherboard, storage, RAM, power supply). The likelihood of this being Otis Two is minimal. We aim to pinpoint it. Your machine should boot with just the CPU, motherboard, and PSUβtest one component at a time to check if codes disappear. Based on the information available, it looks like you're considering upgrading your BIOS to a newer version. The MSI site lists two versions: 7D70v158 (beta) and 7D70v12. Your current board is E7D70AMS.130, which seems to be version 13. Upgrading to the beta version could offer improvements, but if you're unsure, checking for a revert option might be wise since a V13 download link isn't listed. It's best to verify directly with MSI or consult their support for the most accurate guidance.
Some boards come with two BIOS options. Iβm not sure if yours has one or not. Another possibility is using a thumb drive-based update systemβthese vary by brand and can be useful since theyβre fixable if corruption occurs. I prefer the thumb drive method because it allows fixing any BIOS issues that might prevent the board from working. I wouldnβt purchase an AMD board without it myself. Data errors are uncommon, but with AMD they become frequent enough to matter statistically.
I updated the bios but faced issues. I also attempted posting without memory. The first attempt got caught on q-code 10, which was better than 00, suggesting the system was trying to function. It seems the board is blocking posts when memory is unavailable. I thought my speed might have been too slow, so I tried again and it stalled on 00. Removing the dimms didnβt resolve it, but Iβm still replicating the issue. Any other ideas? Itβs unclear what hardware problem might be causing this without further testing.
Check the device carefully; if the hard drive is missing, it may affect performance or data access.
