I've bought some pc parts for my friend and I'm building them a computer. The parts are a: Ryzen 5 5600x Asrock B450 Pro4 GTX 1080 750W PSU 2TB HDD 120GB SSD 16GB of 3200 RAM And now for the past 2 days I've been trying to troubleshoot but i didn't get it to work. The fans spin up and the gpu sends a signal to my monitor for like a short second, but i see no start up screen or anything. My keyboard doesn't light up either. It just runs for like 30seconds then it turns off and restarts. I've checked and all the parts seem to be fine. It doesn't beep or do anything it just gets into a bootloop. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated thank you.
It seems a BIOS update is required. The older B450 models don’t include BIOS that works with the 5600X. You might have to get a very affordable processor—like a Ryzen 3 or even an Athalon—to perform the update, unless your motherboard supports BIOS flashing with just the motherboard and power supply unit. I’m not sure about ASRock’s compatibility, but MSI boards do offer this capability, which helped me after a tough situation.
Locate your motherboard's user guide and check the instructions for updating the BIOS using a USB drive. If the guide describes connecting the motherboard to the power supply and then inserting a USB stick into a specific port while pressing a button, follow that part. Otherwise, you might need to borrow an inexpensive AM4 chip for a short period.
The goal of updating a BIOS without other hardware is to restore a damaged board. I attempted to upgrade my BIOS through the MSI Dragon Center from Windows, but the app performed poorly and caused my motherboard to fail when the update didn’t succeed. Thanks to some YouTube tutorials, I managed to flash the latest BIOS on my fourth try. The process allows many attempts before the BIOS chips degrade from excessive writes, which is quite a lot. You’ll likely need a more affordable CPU to upgrade the BIOS with your budget board. Look for an older model or consider borrowing one. If purchasing, choose a budget-friendly AM4 chip listed on the motherboard’s CPU support page. You might even be able to sell it later to recoup some costs.
The website is the official product page for the AMD B450 Pro4. I reviewed the manual, but there was no mention of updating the BIOS.
