The computer isn't powering up.
I received an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 at 3.6GHz with 1660 Super, 6GB RAM, 16GB DDR4 3000, and a 1TB SSD. When I came home, the PC wouldn’t power on. The PSU only made two clicks before stopping completely—no lights, no fans. I suspected a faulty PSU, so I replaced it, but it also failed to start with just two clicks. Using the paperclip method, I checked both PSUs; the internal fan spun but everything reset to the same two clicks. After disconnecting other connections and leaving the unit powered, the CPU lights came on and the fans began spinning. I’m unsure if the CPU is defective or if I made a mistake in diagnosing. I don’t want to waste more money on parts that aren’t the issue. Appreciate any advice you can offer.
I've tested various power supplies and changed the settings. The unit is a 600-watt PSU, and I believe I wasn't exceeding its capacity. It came with a pre-assembled design.
The computer previously functioned well and now starts up normally without the CPU connections. Your possibilities are:
1. A problem might exist with your motherboard—inspect for bent pins or thermal paste issues around the CPU socket.
2. The CPU itself could be faulty, showing bent pins or burn marks.
3. The power supply wiring may be damaged—test it on another machine.
4. The PSU might be defective; try connecting it to a different computer. If it still fails, an internal protection issue is likely.
I removed my CPU fan and noticed the thermal paste was fully dried out. Everyone posted advice to gently move and rock the fan off the CPU, but mine didn’t stick at all. I’m planning to replace it one piece at a time and will post an update after figuring out what failed. Thanks for your help! Also, I didn’t see any bent pins or overheating signs, though—it’s my first time doing this, so something might have slipped through.
