The computer is producing a loud ticking sound.
I assembled my new computer, everything functions properly but it began producing a loud ticking sound. The noise persists even after all fans are disabled (including the PSU fan) and intensifies during gameplay, though it fades when fans run at full speed. VID_20240114_215443.mp4
Videos shared by @filpo explain that coilwhine is the sound produced when power flows through coils, causing them to vibrate. It's a typical issue in GPUs, with higher framerates often resulting in a higher pitch. This sound is uncommon during regular desktop use since the GPU isn't under heavy load. Coilwhine isn't dangerous or damaging and doesn<|pad|> can be affected, but it's just bothersome. Other components like GPUs, power supplies, motherboards, and monitors can also produce coilwhine.
I ran additional tests and you're likely correct about the coil whine. It varies a lot—sometimes present, other times absent—and it seems more related to the GPU fans than the coils.
It's not due to the GPU fans. The issue stems from vibrations in the inductors and other parts as power flows through them. Certain games place more strain on the GPU, leading to higher noise levels in some cases. This is entirely normal. The fan speed seems to mask the coil whine, but it disappears when you increase the fans to full speed.
