The computer is performing much more slowly than expected.
Hello, I own my PC for just over a year (I built it myself) and have noticed a steady decline in performance. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to play most games smoothly on what should be a capable system. I frequently experience constant stutters and frame rates drop below 70 FPS across most titles, even when using the lowest settings. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 5600X with an RX 6600 XT, 8 GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM at 3000 MHz, an Asus X470 motherboard, a 750-watt power supply, and I run Windows 11. I regularly update drivers and software, but the main hardware issues were a few bent pins on the CPU during installation—those were fixed afterward. Additionally, my previous GPU (GTX 770) stopped working after installation with this board. I’m unsure if these problems are contributing to the performance issues and have been frustrated that my $500 Xbox outperforms my computer in terms of speed and reliability.
It seems the device stopped functioning properly—was it a simple restart or a gradual failure? Did you update your GPU drivers after installing a new one, or did you need to reinstall Windows? Your CPU temperatures are normal, and there are no background programs consuming significant resources. During gaming sessions, your core clocks remain stable. For the GPU, performance is likely lower than what’s expected for an Xbox setup, but it should still perform adequately given its intended optimization.
Additionally tested a user benchmark to see if it provides useful insights. Not sure what all the numbers mean, but I’m hoping this helps. Just need some guidance on MSI X470 GAMING PLUS MAX (MS-7B79) performance results.
The previous GPU functioned for roughly a day before stopping completely. I didn't remove any old driver files or reinstall Windows. The background apps I usually use are voice meter, Discord, or Opera GX, but most of the time nothing is open. My average temperature is around 70°F, with CPU speeds between 4400–4600 MHz and GPU speeds from 2400–2600 MHz. Room temperature hovers between 60–70°F.
Your benchmark says everything is fine, at least with how much you can trust UserBenchmark. I wouldn't trust them that much tbh. Hmm, it might've been a coincidence. Do you know what PSU you have? Like the full model name? That sounds quite normal to me. What games are you playing and what FPS are you getting at which settings and resolution. And how full is your SSD? If it is almost full, it get slower, which might feel like your PC gets more sluggish. And running a game of an HDD, will feel way worse than on the xbox, as it comes with a pretty decent NVMe SSD.
The power supply I owned previously was a Thermaltake TR2 S 650W with TRS-0650P-2 connectors. I stream all my games in 1080p and frequently play COD, Modern Warfare 2, Cold War, and Valorant. It runs smoothly at low to medium settings, but I experience consistent frame drops and stuttering even during intense sessions like Fortnite or Apex Legends. To maintain around 100 FPS, I often need to lower the settings. My SSD is nearly full, exceeding 80% capacity.
Start by checking and updating all GPU drivers, then reinstall the drivers for your current GPU. This might be the issue, though other factors could be involved. For detailed steps, refer to the guide here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/DDU-Guide-Tutorial. It notes that instructions apply to both Windows 10 and 11.
It seems the performance issues developed slowly, which makes it hard to pinpoint the cause. It could be related to thermal or power limits, though you mentioned checking CPU and GPU. Alternatively, your operating system might be affecting the games. For testing, try installing Windows on another drive to see if the problem persists. I’m sorry this isn’t a more effective fix for you.
