After facing several tough storms, my PC has been acting odd. Initially, the Ethernet port stopped working entirely, but after some time it resumed. Now the fans are running at maximum speed and aren’t showing up in the L connect software, while the CPU cooler is still active. Anyone have ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Start by downloading some memory and stress test programs. Then disconnect all peripherals except the mouse keyboard and monitor, checking how the PC responds. Test every USB cable and Ethernet cable individually. If everything functions, the issue may be with the Ethernet port—try turning it off in the BIOS. Next, consider changing the power supply; borrow one if you can. If that doesn’t help, the motherboard could be damaged beyond just the Ethernet port. Determine whether your internet connection is fiber or cable. If it’s cable and you live in a condo, see if others experienced problems with cable boxes during storms or simultaneous device failures.

My connection is via satellite. It’s Elon Musk’s favorite link because that’s all we had. It functions wirelessly and after waiting a while the Ethernet port came back online, so we’re fine now. The only issue is the fans are running at full speed and not syncing with my software. I tried a power cycle but it didn’t help. On the BIOS I can’t adjust the fan speed either. I don’t have any spare parts to test. I was considering disconnecting everything connected to the small controller that powers the fans and checking if that fixes things. Then I’d look into whether the problem lies with my PSU or motherboard. Thanks for your advice—I’m really unsure what to do next.

Could be a power surge affecting the equipment.

The problem might be resolved by checking the Ethernet cable or port connections. If it worked after replacing the motherboard, ensure all components are properly seated and powered correctly.
