The computer is lagging but the games are running properly.
Hello everyone! I acquired a budget PC in 2019 and it performed well at first. But with the rise of C0V1D, remote work, and online learning, my usage time dropped significantly. Eventually, I switched to Windows 11, which functioned smoothly for most tasks like Teams or remote desktop without issues. Now I’m encountering problems with everyday activities such as browsing, using Word, editing photos or videos, etc. Interestingly, gaming remains unaffected—Metro Exodus and Horizon run perfectly. My mouse works fine, but everything else feels sluggish, especially when opening programs; the text appears after several seconds or even minutes after a key press. Even after a recent Windows installation, the issue continues after just a few minutes of use.
I currently have only a handful of installed apps: OrcaSlicer, Bambulab Studio, Edge, Notepad++. I’m considering reverting to Windows 10, but I’d rather find a practical solution or explore affordable upgrades. I’ve shared some screenshots of my setup for reference. I’ve done some research and asked others before posting here.
Possible causes seem to include switching to W11 on a CPU that likely lacks TPM support—or something related. Although not officially supported, some IT professionals mentioned TPM as a potential culprit, even though it’s technically optional. I attempted to disable TPMCheck and SecureBootCheck in the registry and upgraded to W11. Windows 11 supports AMD processors, but I’m unsure if this matters for my situation.
I read about a known issue with AMD CPUs experiencing intermittent stutter when TPM is enabled on Windows 10 or 11. Since I don’t have TPM and it worked on Windows 10, I’m wondering if disabling hardware TPM could help. Also, I was thinking about updating the BIOS, but the manufacturer warns against it for my CPU type. However, some articles suggest newer BIOS versions might resolve the problem.
Could you share any advice or thoughts on this? I realize I may have misconfigured my PC during a recent update, but now I’m unsure what to do next. My build includes: AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF, Corsair 16GB RAM, DDR4 3200MHz, CL16 Vengeance, ASRock B450 PRO4, 6GB GDDR6, Crucial P1 1TB, Seasonic B12-BC-650 (650W).
Thank you for pointing that out. The images didn’t look as large in the preview as they did before.
Windows 11 offers better performance and fewer issues compared to Windows 10. The only alternative is installing Windows 10, as other options may not provide the same benefits.
I tried Windows 11 on my laptop and got comfortable with it, so I wanted to have it on my PC too.
System performance is solid; consider reinstalling Windows. Also, ensure the BIOS is up to date.
