I’ve been experiencing this issue while playing Dota 2. Initially, everything runs fine, but during actual matches, my computer unexpectedly shuts down as if a power outage occurred, only to restart instantaneously. I’ve performed stress tests on both my CPU and graphics card, and neither indicated any hardware issues, so overheating or a failing power supply seems unlikely. I recently upgraded from a GTX 980 to a GTX 1080Ti.

Here are my system specifications:
i7-4790 (Temperatures are normal)
16 gigabytes of RAM
950-watt power supply unit
GTX 1080Ti

I’ve tested several games, with the following results:
Sid Meier's Civilization VI (Works fine)
Kingdom Come Deliverance (Works fine)
Quantum Break (Exhibits the problem – it restarts when I launch the game).

It appears that this issue doesn’t manifest immediately; it tends to begin after 20-30 minutes of gameplay. However, with Quantum Break specifically, the computer restarts immediately upon opening the application. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

This represents a significant concern. The unfamiliarity of the product, its absence from testing protocols, and its potential for substandard quality suggest a problematic device. Low-grade power supplies are frequently associated with issues like unexpected shutdowns and harm to surrounding hardware.

Generally, when a computer randomly restarts outside of software issues, the primary suspects are the power supply and graphics card. I would recommend temporarily disconnecting the GPU to determine if that resolves the problem; if so, it indicates either a failing graphics card or power supply. To definitively test the GPU, replacing it with an identical model and retesting is essential.

However, irrespective of the immediate cause, upgrading to a reliable power supply is strongly advised to prevent further damage to other components. I strongly believe that this situation…

Not at all. In fact I would still keep these firmly as 2 major culprits.
More so the PSU.
What exact make and model PSU is it?
What motherboard do you have?
Do you have all latest drivers installed (including MB / chipset drivers?)
What RAM make and model do you have? Are they from the same pack?
Do you have latest BIOS installed?
What are individual CPU core temperatures under heavy load? (Not just the overall package).
What are GPU temperatures under heavy load?
Does the restarting only ever occur with games?
Has the issue only occurred since upgrading the GPU?

The VenomRX 950W power supply (exact model unspecified) is paired with an MSI Z97-G43 motherboard (with BIOS updated). All drivers have been verified for updates. The system utilizes 2x8GB of HyperX DDR3 RAM at 1866 MHz. During intense gaming sessions, individual CPU core temperatures reach approximately 50-60°C. The graphics card temperature averages 60-70°C under similar heavy loads. This issue is consistently observed only when running games, but does not manifest during rendering tasks or stress tests. It began after upgrading the graphics card.

This represents a significant concern. The unfamiliarity of the product – I’ve never encountered it and it's absent from any testing protocols – suggests a substandard design. Low-quality power supplies are frequently associated with instability and can harm other parts of the system.

Frequently, unexpected shutdowns happening outside of software point to either a faulty power supply or graphics card. I would suggest testing by removing the graphics card and observing whether the problem continues; if it resolves, then either component is likely the culprit. The definitive test would involve swapping the graphics card for an equivalent one and retesting.

However, regardless of the initial cause, upgrading to a reliable power supply is strongly recommended to prevent further damage and potential problems – though this remains speculative until experimentally verified.

I appreciate your guidance. I’ve recently replaced my power supply with a Seasonic Prime Ultra, and it's operating flawlessly. I will no longer consider questionable products in the future!
