The computer had been unresponsive for a while, but it's now working again
Hey guys,
Over the past two days my computer has been stuck on the ASUS motherboard screen, hanging there with the message 'preparing automatic restart'. I managed to enter the BIOS but couldn't get into safe mode. It didn’t loop, just remained frozen, and the spinning circle was also stuck.
Today I decided to try starting it up again and it worked fine! I’m trying to figure out what caused the issue so it doesn’t happen again.
In the past few days it wasn’t working, so I reset it, replaced some RAM sticks, and cleared the CMOS. The SSD health is good at 96%.
Please let me know how to identify the cause!
Specs:
Radeon 5600G
32GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
ASUS Prime B550M-A Motherboard
TP-link wifi card
WD NVME M.2 1TB SSD
Corsair RM 550x Power Supply
It’s about 3-4 years old
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
I managed to access the bios, but I couldn't enter safe mode. It didn’t loop or behave normally; the spinning circle remained frozen. This suggests your storage drive, which holds the operating system, might be faulty or the OS could be corrupt. You might try a system restore to see if it revives your OS.

What motherboard are you using?
If yes, what is the BIOS version for this board?
ignore the issue, your screen would appear blank in this scenario
verify the power supply voltages in the BIOS. ensure the power supply isn't overheating
a reliable power supply sends a power_ok signal to the motherboard. the board shouldn't boot until it receives the signal
poor power supplies may mimic the signal and cause the board to start before stability is achieved
