The computer freezes unexpectedly, not only during games, and requires a restart
Hey, I've been facing some odd problems with my PC lately. Sometimes turning it on will cause it to freeze up within a couple of minutes. Other times, while gaming, it locks too. Occasionally it works perfectly! I've reinstalled Windows four times in the past year. I also swapped out my CPU, RAM, motherboard, and SSDs. Every time I replace something, it seems to work for a while before the issue returns. Temperatures stay normal. I've cleared the CMOS, applied many updates, but the Event Viewer isn't giving any clues. Yesterday it was so bad I couldn't even play games. Today I reinstalled Windows and now I'm getting a disk write error on my M.2 SSD when installing games. After rebooting, it disappears for a while, but the error comes back a few times, requiring another restart. Right now, as I'm writing this, everything seems to be running smoothly with my latest games. I've replaced the SSDs multiple times, including the boot drive. I've even shared them with friends who haven't had any problems. When I encountered the first error after the reinstall, I formatted the M.2 drives and ran a chkdsk, but nothing was found. My current setup includes a Ryzen 7 5700X, 2080TI graphics, MSI Trio Corsair 850W PSU, B550 power supply, and a 550MHz Intel 32GB RAM setup with two 8GB sticks. I'm not sure what to do except replace the whole system, but I've already done that except for the graphics card. Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I attempted that and even adjusting some settings in my XMP profile didn't resolve the problem. But it looks like I discovered something that might be behind the issues. It seems the two 16GB RAM kits purchased had different timings. I removed one pair and everything is working fine now. I'll try a few more tests and share the results soon. Right now, I'm still downloading my games.
