I attempted to spread thermal paste and reattached the heatsink. After reinstalling, the computer fails to power on—no fan noise or front panel lights, only a red flashing indicator on the motherboard. Previously functional, it now idles at high temps. I applied thermal paste thinking of a possible burn mark, but the CPU appears scorched in some areas. The connections seem intact. Assistance would be invaluable.

Did you need to remove the motherboard from the case, or could you take out the heatsink while keeping other parts like RAM and the graphics card intact? Verify that all power cables—such as the CPU 8-pin, ATX 24-pin, and the PCI-E cable on the graphics card—are secure. Also, confirm the CPU fan cable is correctly attached. I see you have a motherboard speaker connected. Are there any unusual beep codes coming from it? https://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

The cables seem fine overall. I unplugged and reconnected them all. I also avoided removing the motherboard to take out the heatsink. Everything appears to be in good condition. There are no noises coming from the speaker.
