the computer didn't start this morning and i'm really puzzled
I have been increasing the performance settings on my rig since I assembled it in September, and everything has performed well. Now, when I power it up, it shuts itself off and then turns back on without booting properly. I had to reset the BIOS in troubleshooting mode, and after that, I was able to boot into a clean system. The BIOS recognized all my RAM and confirmed the default settings before restarting. Once I rebooted, the computer started working normally again. However, the feature to overclock the processor is now unavailable, and even though my previous setup worked perfectly for six months, I can barely adjust any settings without the system refusing to start. I’m unsure what to do next.
Can I have more details on your PC Specifications: Motherboard Make and Model, RAM, Video Card etcetera.
Would you like more information about your PC specs, such as the motherboard model, RAM, video card, etc.? I’m also running a ROG V10th anniversary build with an Intel i7-6900k, watercooled, 2x GTX 1080 in SLI, and 64GB Corsair Dominator Platinum, which is currently at 2133 due to a known issue. Because of this, I’m unable to reach the full speed of the RAM and the CPU is running at its base clock.
even a guess would be useful i believe the motherboard might be damaged since everything else seems to be working properly
So, if you change the memory settings it won't run but keeping it at 2133 might? Have you tried changing the CPU settings with 2133 left? Have you run MemTest86 on the memory before?
JamesBenoetua:
I'm considering an opinion, maybe the motherboard is faulty since everything else seems okay. If you overclock the memory, it shouldn't cause issues. Would changing the memory settings affect performance? Have you tried overclocking the CPU with memory at 2133? Also, have you run MemTest86 on the memory? I've also tried overclocking the processor while keeping the RAM at 3000, which is its rated speed, and it hasn't caused any problems. Windows Memory Diagnostic showed no errors.
I have attempted to overclock the processor as well, and I’m aware that previously for six months I kept the RAM at its rated speed of 3000 and changed the CPU from 3.2 to 4.2 without any issues so far. Yes, I ran a Windows memory diagnostic with no errors. I understand you both the CPU and memory were overclocked in the past, but that’s not working now – so I was trying to isolate one component at a time. Just to confirm, if you apply any overclock to your memory, the system won’t boot. If you leave your memory at 2133 and try any CPU overclock, the system won’t boot either. You’ve done a Windows memory test but not MemTest86. Are the DRAM LEDs blinking continuously? If yes, have you tried MemOk? Have you disabled all DIM sockets except one, or removed all DRAM except one? I’m trying to figure out if any of your memory modules are failing.

JamesBenetueau has shared his experience regarding processor and memory overclocking. He mentions previous attempts to run the RAM at its rated speed (3000) and changing the CPU from 3.2 to 4.2 without issues. He also notes using Windows Memory Diagnostic with no errors. He clarifies that isolating problems is important and asks about the impact of overclocking memory on system boot. He inquires if any DRAM LED is constantly on, suggests trying MemOk, and asks whether all DIM sockets are deactivated except one, or if only a single DRAM stick is affected.
So I tried everything you suggested and it doesn't work. It's been a while, but work has improved. I checked each RAM separately without any problems, yet none of them ran at their rated speed. I even replaced two new RAM sticks to see if the issue was with the existing ones, but there was no change. Regarding the processor not being able to overclock, I don't know how to fix that either.
