I have an Nvidia GTX 1060 with 6GB of VRAM, an AMD FX 8350 eight-core processor at 4.0 GHz, a 500GB Crucial SSD, an ASUS Prime Z97 Pro3 motherboard, and 8GB of RAM. I’m uncertain about my power supply. Previously, my computer was experiencing overheating issues with the CPU after replacing the motherboard. I recently purchased new cooling components, but yesterday while gaming, I noticed a strange odor that I initially dismissed. Subsequently, my monitor went black while the PC continued to operate; when I attempted to shut it down, it now only powers on for a brief moment before turning off again. I’m at a loss to determine the cause.

That’s straightforward for me, as I am as well!

Let me remind you that I will only suggest reliable products, though customers are often surprised by the costs – however, as you noted in my previous link, the power supply unit (PSU) is always the last component to compromise on.

A dependable 550-watt model should operate your system effectively, and Corsair and Seasonic generally offer the most favorable prices in the United Kingdom:

Carefully review and address each stage in this guide to confirm that nothing appears amiss: https://forums. Knowing your PSU’s specific manufacturer and model is crucial in this situation. Check your power supply, motherboard, and CPU for any signs of damage; a sudden failure often indicates an underlying issue if the system previously functioned correctly.

This power supply unit, a black Ace Tesla 650W with an included 120mm red fan, is the PSU.

An unfamiliar product, raising serious concerns. Substandard power supplies frequently lead to system malfunctions and harm to connected parts.

Have you checked the manual and examined it carefully for any defects?

There doesn't appear to be any damage; when I switch it off and on using the rear connection and attempt to power it, it briefly activates and the fans begin rotating before immediately shutting down.

Experiment with building the system on a breadboard first. Disconnect the motherboard from the case and test using only: the MB, CPU (and its cooler), power supply, one RAM stick, and your graphics card. If it still fails, systematically replace each component to pinpoint the issue. It’s generally advisable to substitute the power supply unit, even if it isn't the source of the problem. How long have you owned that PSU? Refer to point 1 at: https://forums. – if the PSU is the culprit, there’s no certainty it hasn't damaged other parts as well. Did you track temperatures after installing the new cooler? FX processors are prone to throttling at low temperatures, so overheating is a significant possibility.

I swapped out my central processing unit for my previous one, and it powered on successfully; however, I cannot verify if the graphics card is functioning due to its lack of a 6-pin power connector. This prompted me to upgrade to the newer model. I’m considering simply purchasing a new power supply – could you offer some recommendations?

What was its performance like previously? Does the 1060 need more electricity?
In what area do you reside?

Upon upgrading my graphics card, I replaced the power supply unit; my prior display adapter didn't necessitate a six-pin power connector. (750 Ti) I reside in the United Kingdom.
