I recently increased my internet speed to 400mbps. I was really happy until they informed me to use their modem instead of my personal one. The modem I have works fine and supports gigabit speeds. It's also on their approved list. Why am I being forced to downgrade to their basic model?

Tell them you wanna use your own. No reason for them to force you to use theirs, they make money by using theirs. Xfinity collects 11 dollars a month extra for renting their modem. I believe thats what you're talking about.

I inquired them about any charges for using theirs, and they confirmed there were none. That was the main reason I purchased mine initially. Before Spectrum acquired TwC, I had to pay $6 a month for a modem. When the installer arrived to connect my phone, I planned to ask him why he was insisting on their equipment.

As long as the modem meets the speed requirements on your Ethernet port, it doesn't matter much. The key factor is the router in front of the modem. If you have your own router, you can use their modem and continue.
