The browser fails to load the local router and modem following a Chrome update.
I don’t understand what occurred, but after updating my Chrome browser, loading my local router and modem interfaces stopped working completely, while IoT web UI remained functional. I cleared the cache, restarted the computer, performed a DNS flush, and did an IP release and renewal. Interestingly, Opera and Chrome on a laptop both worked, but not on my desktop—I’m unsure how to resolve this. Seeing a screenshot. Also, I encountered strange errors in the Chrome web console when trying to investigate further. What’s happening?
I can verify whether Chrome is identical across your computer and notebook. It’s possible an update introduced differences in JavaScript error handling, or extensions might behave differently depending on the device.
Last week Chrome ceased loading my server's interface without any noticeable issues or fixes from clearing cache or cookies. I had to wipe out the entire Chrome user account and everything worked again. It seems someone probably made a mistake.
You've already cleared your cache, which is good. The main issue seems to be something more serious than cached webpage data—reinstalling Chrome might be the only solution. There’s no simple workaround I can think of, but a fresh install could resolve it quickly. It might not be easy to fix otherwise, so the fastest option would be to restart the installation and hope for the best.
Deleting your profile won’t remove the tabs you saved in Chrome. Your important tabs remain intact unless you manually cleared them.
I had to revert my computer back to the state captured by Marcium Reflect on Monday, and turn off Google Chrome updates until I resolve the issues with my Chrome tabs.
Consider trying Firefox as well; Mozilla employs a similar extension framework for compatibility, given that Google Chrome holds about 66% of the browser market share. This applies to desktop versions, and mobile browsers follow the same percentage. On desktops Firefox usage ranges from 6 to 7%, while on mobile devices it sits around 0.5%, which is quite low and makes most statistics inaccurate.
I don’t have to be there every single day, but I’ve faced some problems with my ISP. When the field techs arrive, I log in to the modem to display connection stats for the cable. Yes, I could always switch to another browser or laptop to check the router. I set up Brave Browser to test it, because it’s a privacy-oriented web browser; I used Firefox before for managing my podcast.
This caused significant trouble over a few days, likely tied to a Chrome update. I managed to reproduce the problem using versions 133.0.6943.98 and 133.0.6943.100 on test systems. It appears the fix came with the 133.0.6943.127 release. The issue impacted various internally hosted web GUIs, with some displaying errors and others becoming completely inaccessible. If anyone knows the precise details, please share them here. I haven’t located any other online references for this exact problem.
