I just installed a new PC (Windows 10 20H2) and didn’t install any Brother programs. It printed, but I’m not sure if it was connected wirelessly or via cable. Since there were no printer programs installed, I downloaded several Brother applications from the site you provided. Among them were a firmware update, printer and scanner drivers for local use, and Paper Port. However, when trying to load them, I think I might have missed some steps, and now the printer won’t start at all. My only hope is that someone can assist me before I have to discard a good printer. I’m wondering if it would be better to reset everything by deleting printer-related files, but I’m not sure how to do that. Thanks.

Printer failure to start suggests a possible update issue or improper installation. There are limited options such as rolling back firmware to the original version or replacing the main board. Checking the Brother support site for recovery methods from a faulty flash might be helpful.

Alright, let's see where this is going. I think you're on the right track about the firmware issue, and I did attempt to install something new which didn't go through. I'll look into whether we can revert it. If not, maybe I'll just throw away that printer.

Updated: Contacted Brother support. They advised me to unplug the printer from the surge protector and connect it directly to a wall outlet. The printer came back on after being removed from the socket—everything else was fine. I haven't tried reinserting the plug yet, but I might do it later out of curiosity.

I haven't attempted to reinstall the plug back into the protector because it's a hassle...but maybe I'll try later out of curiosity.
I'm also curious, but I'd rather skip testing the surge protector. Or only do so with something that can be easily replaced.
If the surge protector encounters an issue then future connections might not go well.
These are just my thoughts on it.
