Hi, I also use BT internet which is the fastest in my neighborhood. My family and I have faced problems with it for a while—watching videos always buffers or games freeze, cutting out completely. My mom watches Netflix and gets frustrated. They say it’s the same issue we had before 2014, but BT says there are no problems and we don’t need to replace the router. It’s starting to be really annoying. Sometimes we see around 50 down, 14 up if you try later, or it drops to 30 or lower. We’ve tried Power over copper, but it doesn’t work. I’m not sure what else to do and don’t want to spend money on something without advice. Could someone suggest a fix or alternative? I’m the tech son.
Start by meeting their expectations with BT. Acknowledge your past actions and commit to handling the phone call now. Understand that this situation can change, and you might be able to address the issue more effectively. There’s a chance it’s just a temporary problem—like old fiber ports or water damage affecting the older ADSL network.
A fresh router seldom solves the issue. If your existing router is shaky, you'll see more than just changing download speeds. I used BT for two years with their 50Mbps plan—it was awful, really the worst experience I've ever had, slow and often cut out. I moved to Sky last year and everything worked fine. I recommend contacting BT by phone and asking for a discount on the problem. Just mention you’d switch providers if they don’t resolve it; this usually gets you a good refund or extra services free. Over time, consider another provider—Sky has been reliable lately, while Virgin was okay but not great, and BT has always been inconsistent for me.
