I've been attempting to clone my 1TB HDD for several days. I gradually removed files to match the SSD's size of 500GB. I installed clonezilla and copied it to a USB drive. After turning off my computer, I couldn't change the boot drive. I tried manually adding the clone but it failed. All the guides I've read suggest it works smoothly without problems. I'm unsure where I went wrong. My laptop is an Alienware M15 R1 gaming machine with a 1TB HDD, a new 1TB SSD, and a 500GB SSD. I'm trying to transfer the 500GB to the boot drive since the HDD is very slow.

I rely on Macrium Reflect, it works well, but if you're feeling frustrated, just follow the instructions.

Are there any options for a completely free version, or am I limited to the trial? Trials can be frustrating, but they’re manageable.

Unless you require advanced features beyond cloning, the free limited edition functions adequately. For premium capabilities, AOMEI offers them at no cost, and the interface is very user-friendly—just choose pre-OS or pre-boot when handling partitions.

Sounds like a solid approach.

Back then things changed and I no longer suggested it to anyone. But if you need it, you can still get the older free release (not a trial). Just avoid the official site. For example: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details...ition.html The source is adequate, but it's wise to scan it with AV or VirusTotal. A 64-bit version looks clean: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/7327...56a56e43b0

I made a copy of my operating system onto the SSD, but I need to change which hard drive starts the computer. Edit: Don’t worry. I removed the old drive and restarted it. The system chose the SSD automatically for the OS. Great performance! Updated October 8, 2023 by Kandrona
