DICE love referencing other games in the Battlefield series, and I figured that the sandstorm levolution may be a reference to silent hill. First, let's look at the sirens used in the level. There is s creepy WW2 German siren on one side of the map and on the other the siren is exactly the same as the siren used in the silent hill film as it is a French siren. Here are the two sirens in real life that were used in the level Next, the sandstorm has exactly the same atmosphere as the fog world in silent hill as it has low visibility and high unpredictability and it rolls in exactly like the fog in silent hill while the sirens sound to signify the change to the fog world. What are your thoughts on my theory?

Perhaps it's merely a sandstorm, given Oman's desert landscape, and the sirens are just emphasizing the impending hazardous weather.

Because they were crafted to evoke a stronger unsettling reaction than typical emergency alerts.
