Choose a Windows version that fits your gaming needs. For modern performance, consider Windows 11 or the latest Windows 10. The differences between architectures like 64-bit vs 32-bit mainly affect system compatibility and features, while terms like Home Premium SP1, Professional, and Ultimate refer to specific editions with varying capabilities and pricing.

64-bit Windows 8.1, then upgrade to version 10 upon release. Skip the pro or ultimate versions.

Check the different versions side by side. The 64-bit edition remains 64-bit most of the time, though running very old programs might require a specific version. It’s usually best to choose Windows 7 or 8 in 64-bit and upgrade later when needed.

Windows 8.1 64bit offers the optimal choice, with an upgrade to 10 available after its release. The term "bit" here refers to your system being outdated and having only 1-3 GB of RAM. A 32-bit version still supports older machines and reduces RAM consumption. It also caps your memory usage at 3.5 GB regardless of how much RAM you have, such as 126 GB. The various operating systems released during the naming process didn’t really matter much. Only a few features were unlocked. Still, don’t worry about it with 8.1.

I primarily use Windows 7 64-bit, 8 isn't functional, 8.1 works fine... Version 10 requires extensive fixes, I've been trying the tech preview but it's still incomplete (many bugs). I'm really looking forward to July when Windows 10 is fully ready.
