The best story games?
Thomas was alone.. This game literally made me feel like I had a connection with a square and those other shapes.. Just amazing Yea, brothers is an amazing game too! The controls are also amazing.
Life is Strange (excellent title) comes with a trial version. Telltale Games' Bioshok Infinite also offers a solid experience. Reports suggest the Dreamfall/Longest Journey series delivers engaging narratives as well—Longest Journey predates Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, which in turn is older than Dreamfall Chapters.
The game explores philosophical themes through its narrative and design.
What's with all these game from 2014/2015!?!?! My list spans the decade! Bioware's my Bae Jade Empire KOTOR 1 KOTOR 2 Mass Effect Dragon Age 1 & Inquisition (2 was meh but sadly hugely relevant to Inquisition. Top stories in gaming include Life is Strange, The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Witcher 3, Bioshock Infinite, and South Park: The Stick of Truth.
I genuinely believe 2 surpasses Inquisition. They eventually improved it and turned it into a solid game. The main problem I noticed with Inquisition was that you don’t really connect with a character—you sense the Inquisition rather than yourself. Your history feels irrelevant, and characters across races and classes seem pretty uniform. While there’s some comfort in the message “Your past doesn’t matter. You are now who you are,” it led to fairly generic characters overall. DA:O and DA:I both focus on becoming who you are now instead of who you were, and they handle flat characters well. Although I don’t like the male Hawke voice acting, the cast was really solid. Bioshock Infinite, Dragon Age Origins, Bioshock 1, Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2, and Mass Effect—all of them are great. The ending of 3 isn’t exciting, but the rest is impressive.
The main problem with 2 was its lack of a true open world feel compared to 1 and 3. It felt more linear, with acts that made it hard to revisit certain areas if you missed something, as time jumped slightly between each act. Inquisition offered some act-based progression, but aside from a few random quests, you couldn't easily return to earlier maps. I also thought the inquisitor was the least unique among the characters available. Regardless of race or class, the experience felt pretty uniform.
