I'm starting with PC hardware and noticed the B450 at a reasonable price along with a Ryzen 7 3700X. However, when checking PC Parts Picker, they suggest updating the BIOS which seems to need an older CPU.

The Z series boards are designed for Intel X470 models. Many come with 3000 pre-installed and don’t require a processor update. Confirm with the seller if it’s 3000 ready before buying. Let me know if you need more details!

The same guideline is used. It states 3000 ready on the package, which is what you need. Confirm with the seller before buying.

It varies a lot based on the motherboard. Usually the B450 fits the 3700X nicely, but the 3900X might be challenging.

The majority (if the stock is new) are prepared to back the AGESA code for Zen 2 up to the box. Which B450 board are you thinking about?

Same guidelines apply to B450 boards. When buying from a store, check the box for "Ryzen 3000 Desktop Ready." If it reads "Ryzen 2000 Desktop Ready," you’ll need to update the BIOS or have the store handle it. For online purchases, it’s often hidden unless you reach out to the buyer. Most retailers will free the BIOS update if you buy through them; otherwise, they might charge a small fee for other channels or if you prefer not to manage it yourself.
