the b450-f model caused a failure in the motherboard's CPU locking system
Hello everyone, yesterday I began assembling a PC for the first time. I’ve read plenty of guides and watched many tutorials. At first, I followed the usual steps—putting the CPU onto the motherboard. I’m using an Asus B450-F Gaming II with a Ryzen 5 3600. Unfortunately, when I tried to unlock it by pulling the pin backwards, I accidentally damaged part of the plastic. Now I can’t secure the CPU anymore. Some tech experts I spoke to said they can’t replace it because those parts are rare. I’m wondering if other AM4 motherboards have similar locking mechanisms. Do they all work the same way?
You could be very fortunate if someone manages to break the socket completely and it looks like only a small part is loose—likely simple to replace once you understand the installation. Could you send a photo of the broken top piece? I found an Am4 replacement on AliExpress, but I’m not sure how it would solve your issue. You might try buying that or visit a local repair shop. If you manage to recover it, consider it a good chance—AMD standardized this design.
I noticed the top section is divided into several parts. I attempted to reassemble it using pinches, but I couldn’t locate a replacement. Appreciate you sending the part from AliExpress—I’ll look for alternatives in nearby stores. My last resort will be ordering it online.
