The Athlon X4 860K runs at 4.2Ghz yet displays in Task Manager as 3.5 or 3.6Ghz
Good day to all,
I increased the overclock of my AMD Athlon X4 860k from 3.7Ghz to 4.2Ghz using AMD Overdrive. The process was straightforward, and I managed to do it without much difficulty. After disabling AMD Turbo control, I manually raised the frequencies to 42x, which worked perfectly. I also made a minor adjustment with the CPU VID, but during a stability test I checked Task Manager to confirm if it reached 4.2Ghz – it didn’t. The display shows clock speeds around 3.5 or 3.6Ghz in AMD Overdrive, while CPUID indicates 4.2Ghz. However, my CPU temperature was between 39°C and 40°C, which feels like an idle range, possibly due to fan speed or cooler settings. I’m using a Hyper T2 Cooler with Arctic MX-4 cooling compound, and at full fan speed it still stays around 39°C, whereas I’d expect 50–60°C.
System Specs:
MSI A58M-E33 Motherboard
AMD Athlon X4 860k 3.7Ghz w/ boost clock 3.8Ghz
HyperX Fury 1600Mhz 8GBx1
MSI R9 280X
Corsair CX430W

Please let me know if you need any further help!

Verify with cpu-z and HWINFO (https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php). Also, it would be wise to manually overclock via BIOS instead of using AMD overdrive. Additionally, navigate to Windows power settings and choose high performance mode. Finally, reset defaults back to advanced settings within the high performance mode.
