I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my Zenbook 15. I planned to hand it over to my nephew for college, so I went into the reset settings and did a clean install. But every time I tried, I got a message saying the PC couldn’t be reset and no changes were made. I checked drivers, updates, and even ran a system check for corruption, but nothing was wrong. Still, the drive didn’t appear in the installation window, and when I tried to create a bootable USB, it also wouldn’t show up. I even disconnected and reconnected the drive, but it still wouldn’t recognize it as a bootable device. Now I’m worried the laptop might be damaged. Any suggestions or help would be really appreciated!

It could be related to secure boot settings. I've had my ZenBook with the 8th generation Intel processor, and I've restored it from an SD card multiple times without any problems.

Fascinating situation. I think troubleshooting would have been handled much better. The only idea that comes to mind is updating the BIOS. I mention this because the motherboard doesn’t recognize drives anymore—and if it can’t even show the USB drive for updates, what’s the point? Maybe a CMOS/bios flash button on a laptop motherboard could work, though that seems unlikely. Best of luck!

Bios update will come soon. What’s odd is that it identifies the drive in the BIOS but refuses to boot from it.

Certainly, at least this remains a possibility. Please let me know the outcome so far—I'd like to hear your thoughts.
