Hey everyone - my ASUS Vivobook (Q530VJ) started shutting down on its own while running Timberborn. I thought it was overheating, so I installed HWMonitor and noticed CPU temps reaching 100°C. The GPU looked normal. Changing the fan speed to "performance mode" in MyASUS app stopped the shutdown, but the fan kept running and the game slowed down, appearing like a slideshow. Temperatures stayed between 95-100°C constantly. I cleaned the vents and opened the back for dust check, everything seemed clean. The laptop sits on a stand with good airflow. Is this due to outdated specs, a demanding game, or something else (like dried thermal paste or a defect)? Any tips on diagnosing? Also, here’s the spec sheet from Best Buy.

It seems the issue isn't limited to one title or game. If it only appears in Timberborn, it probably points to weak optimization from the developers. If it shows up everywhere, then improving airflow and cooling might help. It's possible the game uses a standard cooler, but the hardware struggles under its demands.

I've been focusing solely on this project recently, and it hasn't affected my performance in other games or programs before. I might try swapping out the thermal paste or checking the laptop components, since the CPU load isn't that high during playback.

It's quite frustrating dealing with this problem. While swapping thermal compound might offer some relief, if you're experiencing these symptoms—particularly in Timberborn—it's probably time to look at optimization.

So I basically swapped in Kryonaut and it made a big difference. Now the temps stay under 76°C during gameplay! That’s a smart move—money well spent. The performance is still a bit sluggish, though, and the PC doesn’t seem to handle it very well even when things are cool. I also checked the CPU-Z benchmark results (link provided), and the highest temp reached was around 96°C. TL;DR: If you’re using an Asus laptop, their thermal paste tends to dry out over time.
