The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 turns on yet the screen remains off.
I’m dealing with a problem on my ASUS TUF Gaming A15 laptop. When I turned it on, it immediately went into the BIOS and asked me to confirm an update. After confirming, it finished updating and restarted normally. But once it rebooted, the screen stayed black—no backlight at all. The keyboard backlight works, and fans are running, so it seems to be functioning in the background. I tried restarting into the BIOS to undo the update, but the screen remained blank. I haven’t got another monitor or a PC to test, and changing the battery didn’t help. I kept pressing the power button for 30 seconds without any effect. I checked the connections and even considered removing the CMOS battery, but it looks like my model doesn’t have one. It seems this laptop had a BIOS update before, so it’s not the first time this has happened. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Besides connecting a second screen to see if an image appears, is there another BIOS reset option I might be missing? Thanks for your help!
I don’t have access to another monitor at the moment.
You’ll need an external display to check if the laptop’s iGPU or GPU is sending output to it.
Notably, this laptop had gone through a BIOS update previously in a comparable manner, meaning this isn’t the first occurrence.
It’s generally recommended to update the BIOS before Windows Updates or any other application prompts for it.
Because you've kept the power button pressed for 30 seconds, follow these steps:
Unplug the power adapter and any connected devices.
Hold the power button for 60 seconds to remove any remaining charge.
Reattach the charger (keep the battery disconnected if possible) and try to turn it on.
