I was fortunate on mine that the defective cap looked slightly darker, I managed to remove it and it worked well initially. However, if you're not in a good position, it won't be simple unless you possess strong electronics knowledge, the right tools, and maybe locate some diagrams—something rare in the PC laptop community... Louis Rossmann posted helpful videos, for instance, about locating the shorted rail and understanding the expected voltage. If you know the polarity and the intended current limit, you can use a suitable power supply to inject energy and see where it gets hot.
Sadly, I'm not in a great position this weekend. I don't have the right tools. I might examine the internal power cable and see if it has any resistance. If it's fine, I could take it to a repair shop or get a new mainboard. This is why I generally avoid laptops—they're too fragile. You can't just swap one part. I'll share an update if I find a solution. Thanks for your advice!
