Check if your B550-plus supports the CPU immediately. If not, you can still update the BIOS without an additional AM4 CPU. You should be able to enter the BIOS and configure it for a 4-core mode with the B550-plus.

the number of cores doesn’t change compatibility, but the motherboard definitely includes a BIOS flashback feature—check the manual for details.

The manual only references EZ Flash 3 and Carefree bios, which are distinct from BIOS Flashback as described on the ASUS site. I’m wondering if even though the 5600X shares the same architecture as the 3000 series, it might still be able to access the BIOS.
