The ASUS motherboard fails to recognize the GPU in the top PCIe X16 port.
MOBoard: ASUS ROG STRIX z690-A Gaming WiFi D4 LGA1700 GPU paired with ZOTAC GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Trinity OC 12GB. CPU is I7-12700k. RAM is Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB DDR4 x4. System uses ASUS ROG Herculx card, GAMEMAX 1050W PSU, and BIOS version 16.1.25.2020. Operating system is Windows 11. This is my first build with an Intel processor.
I’ve been troubleshooting this for about a year. The issue is that the video card powers on with fans spinning but doesn’t send a signal to the monitor when placed in the PCIE slot nearest the processor. I’ve checked several steps: VGA LED lights up, compatibility confirmed online, processor socket inspected for damage, slots cleaned with compressed air and ESD brush, card reinserted and PSU connections tested. I moved the M.2 SSD away from the CPU, swapped cards to ZOTAC GTX 2070 and EVGA GTX 1070, changed the motherboard three times, and finally replaced the motherboard entirely with a different model. After flashing BIOS to the latest version, rolled back to an older one, enabled/disabled Gen4 in BIOS, reset CMOS by removing battery for 60 seconds.
The result? The PCIe slot isn’t working properly. My experience with Intel might be the reason. I’m trying to use the built-in GPU on the motherboard for video output and can only access it when it’s in the bottom slot. If it’s in the bottom slot, it won’t fit in the case. I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing or a proprietary Intel detail I overlooked. Please help—I’ve reached the “Point of Pride” and just want this fixed.
You're right about the changes. It seems your CPU might be the issue—if you have another one, verify its performance.
I resolved the issue, thanks. I purchased an I7-12700KH and since the "H" processor lacks built-in video, it had to use the DGPU. Appreciate your assistance.
