The Asus laptop experiences frequent power fluctuations.
I've experienced this unusual brightness change on my 2020 G14 used unit. It seems to be a software-related problem, not related to the BIOS or safe mode. The flickering mainly occurs when the battery is low and after waking from sleep or hibernation. Sometimes it also happens under AC power. The screen appears to try to reach full brightness but automatically dims past 70%. Increasing brightness triggers further flickering.
I've tried several fixes: disabling vari-bright, adjusting freesync range, setting a maximum of 60Hz, turning off hardware acceleration, running multiple DDU cleanups, updating or reinstalling ASUS/AMD drivers, using the AMD cleanup tool, updating chipset drivers, and even reinstalling the latest BIOS. The issue disappeared only after a complete Windows reinstall from USB, but returned after installing Armoury Crate three to four weeks later.
This problem also appears on other Lenovo and HP Omen laptops with Ryzen 4000 CPUs. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Unless a firmware update was ever released, the issue remains minimal since it causes the brightness variable to overflow, leading to brief flickering. Many users experienced this, and the sole solution was replacing the screen with a newer model that didn’t have the same problem—it was a hardware fault when freesync was triggered (even without it).
According to my understanding, the only solution was a hardware replacement.
