I own an Asus B450 Strix that I found after purchasing it, and I noticed the VRM is quite poor. You might expect ASUS to be better in this case. I've experienced two EVGA 750w G3 power supplies failing while using this board. Now I'm worried about EVGA power supplies in general, even though I haven't had problems with them before. My search on Google didn't reveal any issues with this particular PSU, which makes me think the problem could be the motherboard or the bad VRM affecting my PSU. I've recently bought an X570 TUF Plus board and a 3900x, planning to upgrade to something better. There are good deals on EVGA PSUs, but I'm still unsure about their quality. My current setup includes a full build: Asus B450 Strix, EVGA 750w G3, Ryzen 5 3600 (no overclocking), 16GB Corsair Venegence RGB at 3200Hz, and an EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 XC Ultra for gaming.
The B450-I can manage a 3600 even with PBO turned on. Its power output isn’t outstanding but it’s not bad either. If the VRMs were the issue, you’d likely end up with a nonfunctional board and CPU. Consider getting a Corsair RM550x or opt for a straight 550W Power 11 unit.
It’s very improbable the defective VRM is responsible… the problem seems more likely from two failed devices, which is both sad and unexpected.
