They mentioned removing the square equation folder in their documents and restarting the game, which resolved the issue.

I'm happy to hear that. What's the reason behind it?

I apologize for bringing up this issue again, but it’s the first search result for this problem and I managed to resolve it. I thought it would be useful to share.
Initially, I attempted all the previous solutions without success. Eventually, I had to completely remove .net from the system, and even the standard uninstaller didn’t help.
First, try uninstalling through the control panel under the 'Uninstall a Program' section, removing every .net, extended, all versions, profile entry. This didn’t work because Windows couldn’t locate the uninstaller.
Then, I downloaded Revo Uninstaller from Snapfiles (a free software site). Just search for it on Snapfiles and you should find it. I’m not linking directly since I’m new to these platforms and don’t want to risk any mistakes.
After uninstallation, either get the latest .net version from Microsoft or use Windows Update to install what’s missing—usually version 4 or 4.5, both seem to work.
Once that’s done, Arkham Asylum should run properly via Steam and guide you through setup.
Good luck, and I’m sure this will help someone!
