The AORUS X570 is unable to power on due to a stuck DRAM LED and cannot access BIOS.
Hi there, I'm looking for help with a tough PC setup issue. I just finished assembling my new machine and turned it on to install Windows 10. After a reboot, the system froze repeatedly. Once it came back, the DRAM LED stayed lit and I couldn't reach the BIOS anymore—it just stayed there. I've tried many fixes: updated BIOS, downgraded BIOS with flash, swapped RAMs, reset BIOS, removed CMOS battery, changed power cables, even replaced the CPU and fan. It's a 3600x board with Corsair Vengeance LPX 16Gb, Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 850W Gold, Gigabyte 5500xt GPU, and Sharkoon 25W case. Any suggestions? (Other than swapping the whole motherboard?) Thanks, Dimitris.
Do you have another memory package available? I've noticed some problems with X570 Aorus (or any X570) when paired with Corsair memory. If possible, check if testing works with a different memory type. Have you tried starting the system using one stick in slot 2? It seems it might not function properly with all sticks together.
Hi minibois, glad you replied! It’s worth noting it functioned for about 20 minutes during the Windows setup, without touching or changing the BIOS settings. I’ve checked every RAM slot, even using one in slot 2... Thanks again.
Did you enable XMP/A-XMP in the BIOS? (It used to boot into BIOS but doesn't anymore.) You might want to test a different type of memory, as I mentioned I've faced problems with Corsair on the Aorus X570 and others have shared similar concerns. G.Skill appears reliable without issues. It looks like you've checked all possible causes already.
If you lack a different RAM module, consider using a bootable Linux installation media on a USB drive, such as Lubuntu 19.04. Activate CSM in BIOS to switch to legacy mode and load the live CD. From the menu, select MemTest86 and run it for at least 30 minutes—typically two passes are necessary for reliability. (For devices with root access, DriftDroid can generate a bootable image in just two clicks.) Alternatively, you may attempt to boot Lubuntu directly from the live CD; if successful, hardware issues are unlikely.
The issue is I can't access the BIOS at all—I see a blank screen and a blinking DRAM indicator... stuck... stuck... stuck...
I'm sorry, upon reviewing your message I realized you might have reset your BIOS through the physical switch on the motherboard. Your board seems to support dual BIOS; try turning it off and on several times (3 or 4) to switch to the second one. If that fails and the CMOS flush doesn't help without new RAM, consider returning it for repair. Note: I'm just guessing here. Make sure all RAM sticks are securely placed in the slots—some require a bit of pressure but don't damage them. Edited April 1, 2020 by tehz
