My computer only powers on briefly, briefly spinning the CPU fan and flashing the Saphire logo on the graphics card, with the front fans moving slightly and the PSU fan spinning while the rear fan shifts forward a bit, all within about 0.5 seconds before it completely stops. After a few seconds of waiting, it fails again. I’ve tried everything to troubleshoot this issue.
What I attempted:
- Removed and reinserted the CMOS battery.
- Replaced the battery.
- Installed a new PSU, motherboard, RAM, CPU.
- Swapped out graphics cards without resolving the problem.
- Shorted the header pins to attempt a jump start.
- Disassembled everything for inspection, checking for metal debris.
- Tried starting the system without any fans connected.
Despite these efforts, the issue persists. I’ve checked all connections, ensured components are properly seated, and there’s no dust accumulation or worn thermal paste. The system still doesn’t boot.
I have a 600W OC mod PSU, an I7 4790T CPU, Asus Q87M-E motherboard, 32GB Samsung RAM, Sapphire RX580 8GB GPU, one IDE drive and two SSD drives.

That is a bad unit. Source(borrow, not buy) a reliably built 650W unit and see if the issue persists.

You have an iGPU on the processor, does the system show any signs of life when you've removed the discrete GPU from the system? Try with one stick of ram.

How do you have this tethered to your motherboard? The board you have lacks an IDE connector.

Are your other devices identical in specifications? If not, that doesn't eliminate any possibilities.
No, the details aren't the same. I began with a CiT FX PRO 700w power supply, Mushkin Silverline ram 16gb, and the rx580 GPU. The CPU was an I5 2500K on an Intel DQ67SW motherboard. This issue began then.
I assumed the problem was the motherboard, thinking one of the RAM slots was faulty, so I shared those specs in my original post.
Later, I switched to an OCZ power supply, but it still had the same problem.
It’s odd that two very different systems faced exactly the same issue. The graphics card doesn’t seem to be the cause because I replaced it with a working Powercolor model, though the PC still only runs for a brief moment. I’m still confused.
Are there any additional stand-offs or mounts beneath the motherboard that don’t match the holes? Also, check the rear panel ports for anything protruding that shouldn’t be there, such as the small grounding fingers on some ATX I/O panels.
I looked under the board and found only risers with screw holes. The rear panel was okay. This afternoon I connected the old specs motherboard to the CiT power supply, using a single stick of mushkin with onboard graphics, which worked briefly before shutting down. I also tried a Samsung RAM stick in the new specs board with the OCZ power supply and onboard graphics, again working for a split second before stopping.
I highly doubt this approach. Conducting tests by replacing a unit with a very old, weak OCZ model isn't a proper method. You should obtain a good one and attempt the test yourself.
What BIOS version do you have installed? Version 1102 or newer is necessary for that processor.
I plan to check it out with a Corsair AX1500i when the opportunity arises.
