i'm attempting to push my amd 8350 to higher speeds on a gigabyte 970a udep rev 1 motherboard, using overdrive. even with a half-multiplier boost, my system crashes and only shows a mouse screen. i've tried clearing the cmos, but it doesn't help. this is similar to what happened with my living room pc running on an fx 6300 with the same board but rev 2. please help!

Make sure all your drivers are current (BIOS + AMD Overdrive). Turn off any Turbo settings in the BIOS and disable AMD's Cool'n'Quiet feature.

Initially, make sure all your drivers are current (BIOS and AMD Overdrive). Turn off any Turbo settings in the BIOS and disable AMD's Cool'n'Quiet feature.

Regarding the PSU, please confirm your current model and voltage readings. You may use the Auto-clock to observe performance and freezing times.

When you see a black screen but the mouse remains visible, can you still move it? The most reliable test is pressing the NUM key repeatedly; if it stays stuck on 'ON' or 'OFF', the system is likely blocked. If movement works, background processes might be running.

For the PSU specifications, I have this one:

It appears to be in good condition. I’ll attach a video so you can clearly see the issue (still uploading).

Make sure all your drivers are current, including BIOS and AMD Overdrive settings. Turn off any Turbo options in the BIOS and disable AMD’s Cool'n'Quiet feature.

Question: What power supply units do you have? You might want to use the Auto-clock to observe performance or freezing times. Also verify voltage levels and temperatures.

Question: When you see a black screen but the mouse remains visible, can you still move it? The most reliable test is pressing the NUM key repeatedly—if it stays stuck between 'ON' and 'OFF', the system is likely blocked. If it works, something might be running in the background.

Question: What is the expected voltage from your PSU? I have the following model:

It seems to be in good condition. I’ll share a video link so you can see the issue clearly (still uploading).

Hey, please let me know when that video is available.
