Your FX 8300 OC at 4.3 GHz should not bottleneck the GTX 970, as it is a powerful graphics card. You don't necessarily need to upgrade to an I5.

Yes, but not too badly. These two parts complement each other effectively.
The eight AMD cores are maturing much like fine wine, while game creators shift toward multi-threaded programming.

Are you worried about low frame rates or the bigger picture? An 83X0 typically handles 60 fps well, but may struggle on a 120-144Hz display. Games that cause frame drops for an 83X0 will affect any i3 and most regular i5 models too.
Summary: For high-refresh screens, a powerful Intel is advisable. On standard monitors, you should be fine with most options except budget ones.
