I just put in my new In Win MR36 liquid cooler but noticed the idle CPU temperatures are around 45-48°C, which feels a bit too high. Could you share some typical issues people face during installation?
For my configuration:
CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE
Case: Lian Li 011D Mini V2 (Flow Edition)
There is no perfect or standard idle temperature. Because idle temperature changes a lot depending on the surrounding air temperature, cooling methods, fan speed, fan size, and quantity. (Dust also affects this.) That's why idle temperature charts aren't available in component reviews—only under load ones. Note: You can't achieve temperatures lower than the ambient air temperature. PCs rely on outside air for cooling. Idle temperatures are irrelevant since even the smallest coolers can maintain CPU/GPU near ambient levels. What really matters is the temperature when under load, as that shows how well your cooling system performs (usually balancing noise and target temperature.)
What are your highest temperature limits? That's much more significant than the other details, isn't it? The CPU usage percentage when it's considered idle is ideally 1% or less, which is very close to actual idle. Lastly, it depends on the software and the mode you're using—some show "Package," others display the temperature of the hottest core, and some use a middle value like the number of cores. All these can give different results.
The tmax (maximum temperature before slowing) is 95°C, which means 70°C is quite acceptable. This is typical for a 360 AIO cooler. If you remain worried about idle temperatures and the cooler permits, you may increase the pump speed to its maximum.
