I increased the i9-9900k overclock on rog maximus hero xi to 5.0GHz, but the heat became excessive. I restored the BIOS to its default and reset the CMOS. Still, the core speed remains at 4.7 MHz. Prior to this change, idle temps were around 30s and 50s during games, whereas now they rise to the 90s while gaming. Nearly all BIOS parameters were left as auto. Please assist.

Review a few auto-oc options on ASUS motherboards; they might be enabled or set to auto, and reverting could assist. It's also good to verify that vcore is configured as auto.
