The top-tier Xe iGPUs in the 12th generation aimed to reach the desktop 1030 line, which is just reaching the very bottom of what can be played on. I checked a budget mini box advertised with a 680m and noticed it's quite similar to a desktop 460. While not great, it does enter the area where 1080p gaming becomes feasible. How precise is this? Also, have there been any notable iGPU upgrades for the 13th generation worth checking?
It varies. An AMD 680M paired with fast memory and not having TDP limits can reach GTX 950 performance. However, in most systems it is limited by TDP and only achieves half that. The result really depends on the device. Also note that a GTX 460’s performance is very poor and won’t handle 1080p games smoothly. A GTX 950 at 1080p will play most games at over 40 frames per second.
Yeah, it’s not really a tough challenge. It’s kind of puzzling since there are three different versions mentioned—three point six eighty meters of something from 2014, the newer AMD laptop graphics addendum, and the iGP in the latest chips that they plan to label as the 6950. That last one should be totally clear. It looks like AMD might be mixing things up a bit.
Notebookchecj evaluated something impressive but unsure which model. The appeal of a custom router grows, yet the remark about keeping core2quad active while paying for power is concerning. I explored tiny single-board computers and low-power options, encountering this situation. I’m wondering if IGPs will reach speeds that let gaming run smoothly, possibly making Steam’s GPU less needed. I’m just checking if they’ve made progress. The 12th-gen Intel didn’t achieve it. Absolutely, whenever I think about naming conventions being bad, I just remember AMD is around. : p ps: integrated graphics cards are powerful enough since the early Ryzen iGPUs. A 1080p medium or low resolution, maybe 720p, but they handle most games at 60fps. 4 years old... still works! #lowspecgaming
Maybe we should aim for something higher. I almost thought Xe would succeed but it didn’t. Looking back, I couldn’t tell if the comparison was between a 1030 DDR4 and a 1030 DDR5—both aren’t up to the minimum gaming requirements. Still, the new model remains slower than a desktop 1650, which feels like a significant issue. That’s definitely a point of concern. I know a 6400 could be faster or slower depending on whether you have PCIe 4 on the top slot—something AMD could really improve. You’re selling motherboards and CPUs that only support PCIe 3.0, yet your graphics card won’t even work properly on them. It’s frustrating. All you needed was more lanes in that fake 16 lane setup—it’s like watching a football team struggle in the final minutes!
