So my partner and I have pretty much the same setup except for the graphics card. My processor tends to get warmer than hers, and I’ve adjusted the fans more aggressively. The core temperature usually stays between 45-55°C, and sometimes it drops to about 39°C. I know the 5950X can get hot, but I thought a 360 AIO would help keep things cooler, though it still struggles to maintain low temps when idle. Underload works just fine.
It might help to try a thermal grizzly or artic paste. Could it really make a difference?
Same as other coolers too—maybe just a variation in paste or plate contact. Either way, it stays quite cool.
Noticing variations in setup is typical—this makes sense since no two systems perform identically. It's acceptable as long as it doesn't consistently reach 80°C or above under steady load. Even brief spikes up to 80°C are manageable, but sustained temperatures above 80°C warrant concern. Adjusting the cooler or re-timing it might help in some cases.
The CPU performs quite intensely, especially when under stress. On my 5900X with an NHD15, I maintained stable temperatures between 83°C and 87°C during load conditions (varied by workload), provided the case and fans were functioning properly. Before starting the build, I removed the cooler to double-check the thermal paste and ensure everything was applied correctly. I confirmed no missing peels. Compared to the 5000 series, these high-end chips tend to overheat more. For context, I used an Antec P101 Silent Guardian case with the front panel open for better airflow and fans set to react to CPU temperatures.
It's actually not a particularly hot chip. The elevated idle temperatures are intentional. AMD's newest processors run at high VCore when idle to keep the cores primed for rapid clock increases during gaming or program launches. Once under consistent load, the VCore gradually decreases, which explains why temperatures remain stable. For the 7000 series, they also operate hot under load but this is designed to maximize performance. Your PCs might show different temps due to varying voltage supplies from motherboards, or possibly your friend's CPU is a high-end model. Still, your chip is functioning properly—feel free to let the fans run at around 50-60% for optimal performance.
