I'm considering upgrading from a 5900X to a 5800X3D since my needs are mainly gaming. I've heard the 5800X3D tends to get hotter than the 5800X, but I'm curious if it actually surpasses the 5900X because of the V Cache affecting heat management. It seems like a reasonable move, though.

These models feature a single 5800X and 5800X3D with 1 CCD containing 8 cores versus two 6-core CCD dies on the 5900X. This results in more focused heat generation, making it tougher to dissipate. The VCache also contributes additional warmth.

It generates less heat overall (lower TDP), yet the actual silicon heats up more due to an additional vcache layer between the heat spreader and CPU cores. On the 5900x, cores are placed farther apart across multiple CCX dies, improving airflow and cooling. However, the increased temperature inside the chip doesn’t affect lifespan or cause more heat to other parts. The real impact comes from performance, not temperature. So why focus on core temps when comparing these CPUs? Gaming results matter more than this.

I meant I actually wrote that it operates warmer thanks to the cache, wondering if it exceeds 5900X. In an ITX setup it's tougher to maintain low peak temps, which causes fans to oscillate or run at higher speeds continuously. It’s unclear why you’re so insistently doubting me—maybe take a break and log off for now.

The 5800x3d consumes roughly 105-125 watts, whereas the 5900x draws around 175 watts. Despite being less dense, it stays cooler than the 5900x, and it also performs significantly better in games compared to the 3d.
