Another issue with my R7500 Netgear router. I’m having trouble setting up a 5GHz network. It broadcasts normally, but once connected I can enter the password and it saves it. Then it just shows "saved" and later gives me a "wifi connection error." I’ve changed the router’s name on my device, tried all available channels—including DFS—and adjusted the three speed settings. I also modified security options and removed them completely. Despite changing everything and testing from 10 feet away with antennas facing me, I still can’t connect or get an internet connection.

Upgrade to the Advanced section, select Setup > Wireless Setup, and turn on Smart Connect. Your router will then decide whether 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz is optimal and establish a connection for you.

It should generate a mesh structure. It uses your connection to link you with the most reliable and clean network available. Your devices can operate on the 5G network.

This seems to exploit a vulnerability in firmware to reach higher performance. It's odd that people would go through that just for the sake of 5GHz.

Maybe, but it's a Netgear function. It's the way I personally use it—I don't rely solely on 5G and prefer this method.

I haven't activated that option via my router. I've checked the internet, and I'm using the most recent firmware version.

That seems confusing... I thought the R7000 was meant to be an upgrade over the 7500 model.

You're experiencing issues where external IPs keep appearing, forcing you to disconnect your network while your router struggles to recognize your static IP. However, your 5GHz Wi-Fi has improved since the router was updated.

Consider discarding it and purchasing an EdgeRouter; you won’t look back. However, seriously, that situation is quite dire. Have you attempted to reset it and re-flash it using the latest firmware?
