Above the CPU's officially supported speed refers to overclocking. Using 3600 RAM is considered an overclocking technique. With Zen 2 CPUs, 3600 RAM appears possible, though it's uncertain whether all RAM will perform consistently in every setup. Factors like the motherboard and BIOS version also play a role. As mentioned, I use Kingston 4000 rated RAM, and the XMP3600 profile functions well with the boards referenced in recent BIOS updates. Earlier BIOS versions didn't support these speeds. The situation isn't fixed—it changes over time.
Supported speeds on CPU, motherboard, and RAM sticks indicate a guaranteed performance level, not necessarily higher than what you can achieve. However, different CPUs and RAMs handle them differently. I've managed to run my Ballistix at 3200–3800mhz with poor timings on a Ryzen 2700 with C7H, but struggled to get T-Force up to 3000–3200mhz on the same CPU, which was clocked at CL15 and 2400G. Two identical kits often perform differently—some may underperform while others can overclock significantly. Using a Ryzen 3600 with a 3200mhz RAM stick isn't bad; you might lose 2–4% performance, but it's unlikely to be noticeable except on synthetic tests.

It seems ballistix offers several options beyond Micron and Samsung. Finding a comprehensive die list is challenging since most retailers don’t publish this detail publicly.
They don't rely on Hynix chips; slower models use Micron, faster ones use Samsung. Kits marked with AES in SKU are Micron E-die—confirmed the 3200mhz CL16 is Micron. I believe 3200mhz CL15 kits also use Micron, while 3000mhz and 3200mhz CL14 require Samsung B-dies. Edit: AEE in SKU indicates B-die kits.
