The 3080ti became stuck—no fan noise, no LED signals, GPU not visible.
Hello, my 3080ti seems to be struggling lately. The system details show a 5800X running on an MSI B550A-Pro board with 32GB RAM, paired with the Gigabyte Eagle 3080ti and a quiet Straight Power 11 850W power supply using the latest Windows 10 version. All drivers and BIOS updates are current. About 24 hours before writing this, I experienced a black screen in GTA V mid-game, with the GPU fans at full speed but no audio output. Now it’s happening again, though not with this GPU. I didn’t notice anything unusual—restarted my case, and the VGA LED stayed on. The card was active, yet there was no signal. Fans were spinning normally, not at maximum, and there was no burning smell.
Step 1: Re-seating the GPU and testing various cables. The card has a 2x8-pin connector (unusual for a 3080ti), but it was the only one I could purchase under MSRP just over a year ago—bought through my employer in Germany, which might matter later. My PSU uses three cables; I tried different combinations without success.
Step 2: I have another GPU (1660) that works with every power cable and both slots. No problems there.
Step 3: Both GPUs, regardless of slot configuration (see attached), are not being recognized. They remain as PCI devices.
Now I’m unsure what to do next. I plan to reach out to the retailer and Gigabyte to check if they can honor my warranty. I’ll send an email first, then follow up after finishing this.
Since I no longer live in Germany but in Eastern Europe—specifically outside the EU—I might face challenges. The retailer may not ship to my country, and Gigabyte doesn’t display any information about my location. This adds another layer of difficulty.
If all else fails, what should I consider repairing or replacing? What could make a card invisible yet still let fans spin and some LEDs light up?

The issue with the video chain involves numerous components, and damaging any one part can lead to total failure. This lack of detection might stem from a graphics card hardware fault. It could also relate to a motherboard or software concern.
I've tried everything possible at home without damaging the GPU or flashing VBios. The fans are spinning, lights are on, and it appears as a PCI Device but doesn't recognize it, giving no signal. It's hard to pinpoint the problem. I'm using the same PC now, switching from the 3080ti to the 1660. If the seller or Gigabyte advises me against something, I'm sure they'll confirm it. Tomorrow I'll test a different power supply. A friend will lend me one that matches mine.
I received a full PC for testing. It uses the same 850W PSU but now includes a 10900K and a 3070. My system runs smoothly with the 3080 Ti, though I only see output from the iGPU. The PSU on my setup didn’t make any difference. The 3070 in my PC performs perfectly. Plus, the 3080 Ti stays cool in the VRAM and chip areas.
We had done all possible to think of solutions. It was a valuable lesson since I designed his system. The retailer responded positively, and we requested further clarification.
After several exchanges with the seller, they decided to use a reroute service and said they don’t ship to your country even though you pay for shipping. I’ll send the card in the next few days once everything else is sorted. There was also some back-and-forth with Gigabyte, which took them time to reply but then they responded quickly. They mentioned there’s no global warranty for graphics cards, which is helpful when buying under MSRP. It might not be repairable, so I’ll check if the retailer will let me pay more for a better product.
